Applications of Oxevision

Oxevision provides clinical teams with insights that can help them to intervene proactively and to plan care, so that they can deliver safer, higher quality and more efficient care.

Our partners have reported making a step change in many care outcomes.
Here are the most common:

It is challenging for staff to confirm that a patient is safe and breathing.

Conventionally, clinicians must open a door or a hatch and peer into the patient’s room to check whether the patient is breathing.  This is highly disruptive to a patient’s sleep and privacy, especially if staff need to shine a light into the room to complete the safety check.

Oxehealths’ Vital Signs gives staff the ability to take a spot check measurement of a patient’s cardio-respiratory vital signs, without entering their room or switching on any lights. It also presents up to 15 seconds of live video to the clinician performing the check, so that they can visually confirm that the patient appears safe.

Oxevision is designed to support existing clinical practice. It does not on its own guarantee patient safety or any improvement in clinical outcome.

“Often we will have a patient that we’re worried about, but want to take positive risk taking in reducing observations and not go in and check on them all the time. Oxevision offers us reassurance. We use the system to do spot checks which enables us to better manage patient risk. It allows patients to take ownership because you’re not going into their room."
Rachel Webb
Ward Manager, Swanswell ward (female acute), CWPT. RPsych and Faith Ndebele Webinar Flyer
“I think Oxevision increases safety for patients because staff carry around the tablet with Oxevision on it. They can see an overview of what’s going on on the ward, without knocking on the patient’s door.”
EPUT Early Insights Report, Patient
Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust
“I couldn’t imagine not having the system now in place. It’s something that makes us feel more secure and we feel it sets up safety for the patients.”
Tracy Beechey
Deputy Ward Manager, Stanley male ward, Manor Hospital, Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust.
“Sleep is crucial for patient recovery. We hope that by using Oxevision to do observations, sleep will improve for many of our patients, which in turn could have a positive impact on their recovery.”
Dr Alvaro Barrera
Consultant Psychiatrist, Vaughan Thomas ward, Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust
“It can be very difficult to see breathing at night time, especially if a patient is sleeping in an unusual position or with their back turned away from the door. Oxevision makes it much easier to see the patient is ok because it gives you their breathing rate.”
Rumi Mohideen
Healthcare Assistant on Vaughan Thomas ward, Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust
“I’m pleased that the Oxehealth system is proven to be safe and effective. The ward and management have been part of developing the new process so we know it works how we want. Nursing procedure has stayed the same and clinical judgement is paramount. It’s nice to see how quickly the team have embraced the system, even staff that had initial scepticism.”
Andrew Wood, Research Nurse
Vaughan Thomas ward, Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust
“There’s no disturbance to patient sleep when we conduct our observations at night using the Oxevision system. You are not making noise by opening the hatch or the door or switching on the light in the patient’s room. It is a very efficient system and I feel like it is improving recovery for our patients.”
