Oxehealth Take Home LaingBuisson's Innovation in Technology” Award"

Last night we attended the LaingBuisson Awards, renowned as the Oscars of health and social care sector, the LaingBuisson awards recognise national organisations for their dedication, success and talent within the care industry, celebrating individual achievements from the past year.

We were up for their "Innovation in Technology" Award, which we proudly received last night after detailing the outcomes from our two recent reports; Safer dementia care in Mental Health hospitals (with Coventry & Warwickshire Partnership Trust) & A good night's sleep (with Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust) in our application. The DCA has been proven to reduce safety risks (Older Adult = falls, Acute = ligatures, self-harm, violence/aggression, contraband use). It alleviates staffing shortage (increase staff productivity by deploying Digital Care Assistants that give clinicians more time to care). It enables an improved patient experience: patients reporting better sleep, feeling safer and a greater sense of privacy at night. The DCA enables nurses to measure vital signs contact free, without entering a bedroom and disturbing a patient while they sleep. Oxehealth’s Vital Signs product module is a Class IIa European medical device. It is the first company in the world to offer medical grade, contact free, vital signs monitoring through digital camera (optical) sensors. There is no device connected to the patient, and the technology works even in total darkness. Providers are achieving significant patient safety & experience improvements as well as calculating in-year payback. It has been referenced as outstanding practice by CQC.  

About Oxehealth

Oxehealth was founded by the head of engineering at Oxford University, Professor Lionel Tarassenko in 2012. Since then, it has become a UK tech success story, with financial backing from IP Group Plc and Ora Capital, two major investment trusts committed to supporting UK science for the long-term. A case study has been published about Oxehealth’s work at Manor Hospital, part of Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, where falls are a major risk. Staff report that the Digital Care Assistant has “become the sixth member of our team on the night shift.”  

About Oxehealth’s vital signs measurement software

Oxehealth uses proprietary signal processing and computer vision to process normal digital video camera data to measure pulse rate and breathing rate and is intended for the non-invasive spot measurement of these vital signs.
